New Kitchen

After years of overcrowding in the existing jail, Polk County built a new Northwest Regional Corrections Facility and an adjoining Polk County Justice Center in Crookston in 2008. The combined project totaled $25 million and resulted in a 147,000 square foot building. The Corrections Facility is a 225 bed facility for both male and female populations with an elaborate security system, as well as a recreation area, kitchen and laundry services, and other support areas.

The foodservice department is designed for a facility with 220 beds, expandable to 300 beds for kitchen purposes. An insulated tray service system is utilized, and beverages are delivered in bulk. The cook’s island workcounter serves dual purpose as a hot food prep counter and tray assembly counter with hot food assembly on one side and cold food assembly on the other. The cold food side of the assembly counter is adjacent to the cold food preparation area.

The project received the 2008 Minnesota Associated Builders and Contractors Pyramid Award in Electrical Construction.
