The $20 million renovation and addition of the 70,000-square-foot Memorial Student Center features updated dining venues, more lounge spaces, flexible ballrooms for meetings and events, and a new Student Organization Center. The design emphasizes a “town square” concept, and new entrances created a stronger connection to the surrounding campus circulation patterns. The renovation included the reconfiguration and re-equipping of the upper and lower foodservice areas to contemporary and flexible dining spaces with a variety of food concepts.

New and innovative dining options on the upper level expanded to include comfort foods, a deli, grill, Mexican food and a cook-to-order station where customers customize their dishes with daily pasta and stir-fry options. The lower level is home to the Skylight Mart, where the Brew Devils coffee shop, Blue Devil Grill and the Buns & Bowls sub and salad shop are located. The space also includes Fire & Stone Pizzeria featuring a woodstone hearth-style oven. The terrace was transformed from a large cafeteria to an area that now includes a gas fireplace and a small stage and dance floor, allowing that space to host numerous events as well as serving as a main dining location. Traditional tables have been replaced with rounded booths and high-top tables.

Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen remarked “We have taken a building that badly needed updating and made it into a fantastic facility that will serve our campus for many years to come.”
